INVITED Good Practice Examples – Primary School

These examples were created by our student-teachers during their school placements. (MORE EXAMPLES COMING SOON)

Our Journey to Happiness

“Our journey to happiness” is a Virtual Exchange project connecting 4th-grade students (ages 9–11) from Germany and Poland. Over about 12 lessons, the students team up to help a fictional little creature named Alan, who currently lives in a dirty, unfriendly place. Together, the students experience digital tools like Book Creator, Padlet, and various AI tools to develop a brand new, welcoming country for him.

Recycling Robots Beyond Borders

The Recycling Robots Beyond Borders Virtual Exchange (VE) project challenges
students in both contexts to identify environmental challenges in their community and create a robot made out of recycled materials that can solve the chosen environmental issue. Throughout the project, students learn how to sort waste correctly and understand how it impacts their everyday life, as well as in their partner’s context. Through collaboration with their international partner class, students explore different recycling systems, compare environmental practices in their countries, and communicate in English in meaningful situations.

The Atlas of Real and Imaginary Species

The Atlas of Real and Imaginary Species is a 4-step Virtual Exchange project that connects primary school students through a collaborative, CLIL-based exploration of English, art, and environmental science.
Moving systematically from Lower-Order to Higher-Order Thinking Skills (LOTS to HOTS), the project begins with a live, synchronous “Wild Animals Domino Game” to activate foundational vocabulary, followed by a second live meeting “Collaborative Fantasy Animal Drawing”, where teams use spoken English negotiation to design a unique creature. The collaboration then shifts asynchronously as students write structured paragraphs describing their designs and swap texts to complete a “Tactile Crafting” challenge, decoding their peers’ words to create a 3D model from crafting materials without visual aids. Finally, students analyze their crafted animals to deduce real-world habitats, evaluate ecological threats, and formulate simple, actionable solutions to protect both real and fantasy wildlife, culminating in a shared conservation campaign that bridges creative imagination with real-world environmental science.

A taste of Spain and Poland, healthy lunchboxes

This virtual exchange project connects students from Spain and Poland to explore cultural differences through food, focusing on the lunchboxes children bring to school. Through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous
activities, students introduce themselves, share what they usually include in their lunchboxes, and compare eating habits between both countries while practicing English in meaningful communicative situations.

INVITED Good Practice Examples – Preschool

These examples were created by our student-teachers during their school placements and collaborators of the INVITED Project.

Tweet and Meet

“Tweet and Meet” is an eight-month-long virtual exchange project going from autumn to spring that connects two groups of pre-primary learners aged 3–5 from different countries. Through a combination of asynchronous activities and live online meetings, the children explore the topic of birds while getting to know each other and their everyday lives. The children exchange photos of their world, create drawings, crafts and a small present to share with their partner class, and practise songs to sing together during the online meetings. The project supports language learning, creativity, social interaction, communication and intercultural learning.

My Little Pet: Animals, Colours and Feeling

“My Little Pet: Animals, Colours and Feelings” is a collaborative Virtual Exchange project for pre-primary learners aged 4–5. Children from two partner classes discover and talk about pet animals, colours, feelings and personal preferences through songs, stories, games, movement, drawing and simple digital activities. They communicate with a partner class through photographs, short videos and teacher-supported virtual meetings. The project promotes early English learning, creativity, social interaction, digital awareness and intercultural curiosity. The project culminates in the creation of a shared
digital “Pet Friends Book” containing children’s drawings, photographs, animal
names, colours and simple English expressions.

Good Practice Examples

These examples were chosen as valuable resources developed independently of the INVITED project, with full credit given to their original creators.

International cats calendar:

Children in international groups created cat calendars. They posted their calendars online together with drawings, (true and imaginary) stories, facts, and songs about cats. The project started during COVID-19 when children spent a lot of time at home with their pets. They presented their pets to each other during online meetings in order to feel more connected with other children during lockdowns. The project won a quality award in Slovenia in 2022.

eTwinners as pros:

The project enables the learners to engage in inquiry-based learning about a variety of topics including technological inventions, engineering, books, computer animations, astrology and traditional games and recipes. They do so by exploring different professional roles such as chefs, journalists, historians, etc. Students are actively involved in choosing, designing and evaluating the topics and activities they carry out.

Reducing plastic pollution:

The project aims to foster children’s awareness of the problem of plastic pollution and help them find alternatives for plastic in their daily lives. With the help of videos that they sent to their partner class, the learners compare plastic pollution in their surroundings and ways of reducing and recycling plastic. Together with their partners they develop videos of how to help animals who suffer from plastic pollution.

Vegstigators:

The aim of the project is to involve children in the process of inquiry related to vegetables. Preschoolers are part of a group called “Vegstigators – vegetable investigators”, in which they work together to learn more about vegetables and become more aware of their importance. The project includes a variety of activities to do as a group or individually, both within their own country and internationally.
